Damage of Plastic Bags on  Ocean Life

Hazards Ocean Life

Plastic bags are critically effecting marine. They entangle many birds and animals that are flying over it or swimming under it because they mistake the plastic bag as a jellyfish. As you can see, the animals that are dying from plastic bags are the ones that hunt jellyfish or any other animal that is in the squid family. This includes the rare and endangered leather- backed sea turtle, (the leather-backed sea turtle is shown in the left). Since about 8 million tons of plastic are deposited, into the ocean, about a 100,000 marine animals die from plastic bags every year. Since we eat fish and other marine animals which may have eaten the plastic bags, the toxins may have been passed right up to humans. In fact, some organizations predict that in a few years, plastic bags could have reached the north and south poles.
